Overview of Kota Damansara, Selangor, Malaysia
This is an overview guide in Kota Damansara. Hope it's useful for those who
- plan to visit Kota Damansara
- plan to buy property and live in Kota Damansara (well, property prices here jumped 300% since the last 10 years). From RM 250k to RM 800k condo, just an example.
When you mentioned Damansara, it's high end area. Kota Damansara previously was a deserted area until IKEA comes in. That's when the property boom and traffic jams occurred. A 1.2k sqf condo was just RM 250k when IKEA opened. Now, it's worth RM 800k at least.
On December 2016, we can access Kota Damansara via MRT. This makes travelling to the area easier and reduced traffic jams.
When you mentioned, Kota Damansara..... Sunway Giza is definitely the association point. It's not a great attraction but it's a symbolic reference to the center of Kota Damansara. Below is the map for your reference
There's various government school (Malay schools, Indian schools) as well as a private school here (St. Joseph's Institution International School Malaysia). There's also Segi College in this area.
Tropicana Hospital is the private hospital in this area. Sg Buloh Hospital (government hospital) is 15 minutes away. Plenty of clinics too. So you are pretty safe here :)
The traffic was a nightmare. But over the years, due to widening roads, it's getting much better. There's still traffic jam but far tolerable by now. It took you 20 minutes jam to get out of Kota Damansara which is pretty decent in the morning of working days. When returning home, it's almost moving slow but moving traffic condition.
Heavy traffics are expected for outsiders going to IKEA and the Curve on weekends. However, there's less traffic who residents in Kota Damansara heading to IKEA.
Various kind of food here. And pretty expensive, since this is generally considered as high end area. Japanese, Korean, Thai, fast food, mamaks, chinese stalls, malay stalls, steamboats. Well you name it, usually they have it. Fast food includes McDonald, KFC, Domino and Burger King
There's at least 5 chinese coffee shops with many stalls inside it, in Dataran Sunway (where Sunway Giza is located) alone. Plenty of choices during morning/afternoon. Unfortunately, 2 of these coffee shops does not open at night.
There's also a Malay foodcourt here!
Lot's of massage centres here and plenty to choose from. From traditional to modern massages, Chinese to Thai to Vietnamese to Balinese style and from decent to indecent massages. You can get whatever kind of massages you want here.
Overall, feel quite safe. But personally never witness any snatch thieve case. However, heard stories of a lot of snatch thieves case nearby Sunway Giza traffic light late at night.
